Quick guide
What can Slug Generator help you do?
Free slug generator. Convert titles into URL-friendly slugs with stopword removal, custom separators, length limits.
Best for
Use this to turn a title into one URL path segment with consistent separators and optional English stopword removal. It does not encode an entire URL, check for duplicate slugs, create redirects, or transliterate Chinese text into Latin letters or pinyin.
How to use it
Replace the sample title and choose a hyphen or underscore. The default length is 60, with lowercasing and stopword removal enabled; the length input advertises 10 to 200. Changes update immediately, so read the shortened result before copying it into your route field.
How to read the result
The tool applies NFKD normalization, removes a subset of combining accents, replaces non-letter/non-number runs with spaces, and joins tokens. Unicode letters remain, and English stopword matching ignores case. Overlong output is sliced directly rather than shortened at a complete word boundary.
Privacy and limits
Titles and options are processed as strings in your browser without contacting a search engine or storing slug history. Copy places the result on the system clipboard. Unpublished titles, internal project names, or customer names are not automatically redacted before you share the result.
Length uses JavaScript string units, bounded to integers from 10 through 200; blank input uses 60 and fractional parts are discarded. Truncation avoids leaving half a surrogate pair but can still shorten words. Check uniqueness, routing compatibility, and existing links before publishing a replacement path.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a slug?
The readable trailing part of a URL, like 'hello-world' in /posts/hello-world. Essential for SEO and shareable links.
How are non-ASCII characters handled?
Unicode letters are preserved and Latin diacritics are normalized. This tool does not transliterate scripts.
Why remove stopwords?
"the/a/of/and" add length without SEO value.
