Social Media Char Counter
Real-time platform limit checker
Quick guide
What can X & YouTube Character Limits help you do?
Character counter for the verified X 280 weighted limit, YouTube title 100 limit, and YouTube description 5,000 limit.
Best for
Compare a draft against this widget’s three presets for an X post, a YouTube title and a YouTube description. Use it to identify text that needs shortening before checking the actual publishing editor. It does not include other platforms or account-specific posting options.
How to use it
Paste the complete draft, including spaces, line breaks and URLs. All three rows update as you type. The built-in limits are 280 for X, 100 for a YouTube title and 5000 for a description; the widget does not retrieve current account allowances.
How to read the result
Rows show usage, the preset limit, and remaining or excess units. YouTube rows count Unicode code points. X uses weighted text, assigning 23 to matched HTTP(S) URLs and usually 2 to CJK characters, with some combined emoji handled through browser grapheme segmentation.
Privacy and limits
Counting happens in the browser. This widget does not sign into social accounts, publish your draft, or open URLs found in the text. It has no draft storage operation, but unpublished copy remains visible on the page and during screen sharing.
These are simplified estimates, not a platform submission validator. Flag sequences, punctuation attached to URLs and browsers without grapheme segmentation can produce discrepancies. A result below the limit does not guarantee acceptance; check the actual destination editor before publishing the final draft.
