Use this to inspect available thumbnail versions for a YouTube video, compare clarity, or check your own cover image. It builds image addresses from a video ID. It does not analyze video content or extract frames at a chosen playback time.
How to use it
Paste an eleven-character video ID or a complete YouTube or youtu.be link, then fetch thumbnails. Common watch, Shorts, embed, and live paths are supported. Choose Open original image on an available card, then use your browser's image-saving action.
How to read the result
Cards show versions that pass an image-loading check; dimension labels are preset, not individually measured guarantees. The default version accepts a 120 by 90 image, while larger versions reject fallback images no wider than 120 pixels. Missing cards do not necessarily mean the video is absent.
Privacy and limits
Link parsing happens in your browser, but requests for each image version go to i.ytimg.com. That host receives the video ID and ordinary connection information. Opening an original image also contacts that host; this is not an offline thumbnail extractor.
Not every video offers a maximum-resolution thumbnail, and connection restrictions can hide otherwise available versions. The tool does not check permission to reuse an image. Being able to open a thumbnail is not confirmation that you may republish it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why no max resolution sometimes?
YouTube only generates 1280×720 thumbs for HD videos or those with custom uploads. Old videos may only have lower resolutions.
Does the button download the image?
It opens the original image from YouTube in a new tab. Use your browser save action if you have permission to reuse it. Videos are never downloaded.
Does it support YouTube Shorts?
