Quick guide
What can Add Page Numbers to PDF help you do?
Free online PDF page numbering tool. Set position, font size, prefix, and starting page number. Runs in your browser.
Best for
Add a visible sequence to an unnumbered report or continue numbering a separate appendix. You can choose a starting integer and an optional prefix, such as Page followed by a space, while applying one consistent position and font size throughout the PDF.
How to use it
Choose a PDF, select bottom center, bottom right, top center, or top right, and set Font size from 8 to 48. Enter Prefix if needed and set Start number. Press Add page numbers to download page-numbers.pdf; defaults are bottom center, size 12, starting at 1.
How to read the result
Every source page receives prefix plus start number plus its zero-based position. Starting at 5 therefore labels the first page 5 and the second 6. Open the downloaded PDF to check placement, especially where existing headers, footers, or rotated pages could conflict.
Privacy and limits
Numbering runs locally with pdf-lib 1.17.1 downloaded from jsDelivr. The widget does not submit PDF bytes or prefix text to a numbering service. The output remains a full document copy; adding page numbers does not remove private content or metadata.
Start number changes the printed sequence, not which source page is numbered: there is no skip-cover or page-range option. Existing numbers are not removed. The embedded Helvetica font rejects unsupported prefix characters, and long prefixes can extend beyond the fixed page margins.
